Amazon Removes ‘Offensive’ Images On Products After Sikh Community Campaign || SNE

Amazon has reportedly removed products showing images “offensive” to the Sikh community, following complaints last year.NGO United Sikhs said the “sensitive images” on products such as toilet seats and doormats were removed after months of lobbying, according to a press release from the organisation.
United Sikhs was calling for the removal of sale of the products, which depicted the Golden Temple and the Khanda.At the time, some of the products had been removed from Amazon.com, but the Golden Temple toilet accessories remained available.
The Golden Temple, or Darbar Sahib, is “the most important pilgrimage site for Sikhs” while the Khanda in an important symbol in the faith.But a press release from the NGO on 14 January claimed Amazon had removed all products from sale.
United Sikhs education director Dr Gurparkash said: “Amazon should not make money at the expense of the sentiments of the others”.”United Sikhs efforts towards Amazon and many of the companies we have engaged in, over the years are an attempt to bring awareness in the world,” he said.
“Thus, protecting the rights and sentiments of the 28 million Sikh community members across the globe. Through engagement and positive dialogue, we are able to achieve this.”The organisation thanked Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos for the swift response and open dialogue throughout the campaign.
