Amritsar: For the financial year 2017-18, budget of Rs 384 crore has been presented by Amritsar Municipal Corporation (MC). The last year’s budget was pegged at Rs 357.88 crore.
MC mayor, Bakshi Ram Arora, a veteran BJP leader, had a meeting with district SAD chief, Gurpartap Singh Tikk and 18 Municipal Councillors(MC) of the holy city on the issue.
Raising objections upon the budget, MCs belonging to SAD and BJP, alleged that the newly constituted state government, led by Captain Amarinder Singh, had ordered the authorities to remit all the funds that previous government had sent to MC.
The stated that all the contractors holding various kinds of works had stopped development work in midway.
SAD-BJP MCs also demanded ouster of senior Deputy Mayor of Amritsar Avtar Singh Trakkanwala, from his post, as the latter was reportedly engineered an alliance with the Congress. Commenting over the issue Arora stated that MCs should tender a written statement over the issue.
Pawan Khjuria, another MC of SAD, urged the SAD and BJP MCs present on the occasion to carry on their crusade and make concerted efforts for the uplift and development of their wards with a view to make the holy city a number one city of north India.
He also stated that if Congress government will resort to dilly-dallying for issuing grants to MCs of SAD and BJP, they will be forced to hold demonstrations to get much-needed grants for initiating development works in their respective wards.
