SIDHU, 59, is the son-in-law of senior Akali leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa. A former Army officer, he joined the Punjab Civil Service in 1989, was promoted to the 2004 batch of the IAS in 2012, and went on to serve as Mohali deputy commissioner from 2013 to 2016. He was posted as secretary in the Punjab Agricultural Marketing Board in February but took voluntary retirement ahead of his nomination.
