Punjab Cops to enter Virtual World to check cyber-crime from 2018.

As the radicals and right wing forces spread wings to launch media war against India, the Punjab government has formed special cyber-crime cell in Punjab Police. This special cell will start its operations from 1st January 2018.

Radicals, anti-India elements and gangsters have been using social media platform to spread anti-India propaganda to misguide the youth of the state.  This special cell with check anti-India radical propaganda on social media, specially Facebook, You tube and Twitter.

The recent cases related to target killings have revealed that pro- Khalistani forces had radicalised the key accused through social media. Punjab Police has hired a professional Information Technology company to design its social media strategy through which it could make its presence felt to check radical propaganda.

“One cannot control or block the activities of anti-social elements on social media. The only way to counter misinformation is to spread true information. Till now, there is nobody to counter fundamentalists or gangsters,” said a senior officer, associated with cyber cell.

“We want people and the youth, to get correct information. When the state was hit by incidents of sacrilege of holy books, the police department felt that the challenge of dealing with misinformation on the social media was required. Even though there had been only two incidents, the social media was projecting it as 20. In today’s world, you cannot control everything through the print and the electronic media,” said the officer.

The Police Department’s special cyber-cell is busy in finalising the material that will be uploaded across all segments of the social media as a counter strategy against radicals and gangsters.

The Punjab Police special cyber cell is the brain-child of DGP Suresh Arora. He has formed a team of senior officials to monitor content and collect feedback from the virtual world. The material prepared includes documentaries based on lives of families whose wards have entered the world of crime. The department has also made a few documentaries on its own achievements. These will be uploaded in phased manner. The main aim of this special police cell is to counter misinformation and promote correct information on the net.
