The Chief Khalsa Diwan has announced to conduct World Sikh Educational Conference and establishing a single domain Gurmat university dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
In the presence of Takht jathedars and other Sikh intellectuals, a deliberation session was conducted at CKD today.
Akal Takht acting Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh expressed concern over the “directionless” Sikh youth who were more inclined towards “patit culture” (Sikh with shorn hair and trimmed beard). He appealed to the Sikh organisations to join hands for the sanctity and prosperity of the Sikh community.
Former MP Tarlochan Singh viewed that to propagate Sikh philosophy, gurbani should be translated in multi languages and spread in respective regions. This would widen its reach beyond the Sikh community as the Gurus’ teachings were focused on universal agenda.
CKD president Nirmal Singh said the World Sikh Educational Conference would be organised at Sultanpur Lodhi from Septmber 27 to 29. Various intellectuals also spoke on the proposal to set up university named as “International University of Sikhism”.
Those who presented their viewpoints included Golden Temple’s head priest Giani Jagtar Singh, Takht Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, SGPC member Bibi Kiranjot Kaur, Iqbal Singh Lyallpura, Principal Jagdish Singh, Swarn Singh Khalsa, Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, Dr Ramanpreet Kaur, Sukhwinder Singh and Anup Singh.
