After a lot of delay, Randeep Hooda’s historical war film, Battle of Saragarhi, is finally kickstarting from next week in Punjab. While Randeep will portray the prominent role of Havildar Ishar Singh, veteran actor Danny Denzongpa will essay a negative character in the film. Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi confirmed the news to Mumbai Mirror and said, “Yes, we leave for Punjab next week where we will shoot for 40 days. The Kazakhstan shoot will be in the first week of March and we are putting up a set there. We were looking for a location like Afghanistan where the battle took place and found that in Kazakhstan. The weather conditions are harsh till February which is why we have pushed the shoot to March. It’s a crucial sequence and will be shot over 45 days.”

Recently, Karan Johar had announced Kesari along with Akshay Kumar, which has the same premise as Battle of Saragarhi. Talking about that, Santoshi said, “Akshay is a dear friend and Karan is a colleague, I wish them the best. Nobody has a claim over history so we are all free to make our films on the subject. Yes, I agree it would have been good if there wasn’t a clash as it can be stressful for both parties, more so for me because I’m the underdog making the film with newcomers and Randeep who is a good actor but does not enjoy superstar status.”
