Six BJP-RSS workers get life term for the murder of CPM worker | SNE

KANNUR: Thalassery Additional District Sessions Court has awarded life imprisonment to six BJP-RSS workers on the charge of murdering CPM worker Thazheyil Ashraf at Panoor in the district in 2002.
The court of additional district judge (2) P N Vinod also ordered the convicts, identified as T K Subin alias Jithu (37), Aneesh alias Irumban Aneesh (39) E P Rajeevan alias Poocha Rajeevan (41), P P Purushothaman (37), N K Rajeesh (44) and K Ratheesan (39) should also pay fine of Rs 50000 each and in case of default they will have to serve another year in jail. 
The amount would be given to the family of the victim. The case is that the six RSS workers stormed into a shop at Panoor in the afternoon on February 5, 2002 when he was inside a vehicle showroom near the bus stand. Though there were 12 people in the jeep in which the assailants came to the shop, only six of them entered the shop and hacked him to death, according to the prosecution.
The murder was committed when there was no tension in the area and it was suspected that the CPM worker was targeted in a calculated move. The trial in the case began only in October 2011, after nearly nine years, and the verdict came after more than fifteen years of the murder.

Though the convicts have been awarded addition ten years and fine of Rs 20000 each, for breaking into the shop, the jail term will run concurrently, said public prosecutor B PSaseendran, who appeared for the prosecution.
