LUDHIANA: Three scientists of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) namely Guriqbal Singh, Ravinder Singh and Gaurav Kumar Taggar have been honoured by the Indian Society of Pulses Research and Development (ISPRD) during the National Symposium on “Pulses for Nutritional Security and Agricultural Sustainability,” held at ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur, from December 2-4, 2017.
Guriqbal Singh, Senior Agronomist (Pulses) working in the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, was honoured with “ISPRD Excellence Award 2017” for his outstanding contributions to natural resource management in pulses. Singh has more than 27 years experience of working on pulses agronomy and has made significant contributions in developing improved production technology of pulse crops. He has published five books, 17 book chapters, 144 research papers, 86 conference papers, 107 popular articles and three bulletins. He is a Fellow of Indian Society of Pulses Research and Development, Indian Society of Agronomy and Indian Society of Weed Science.
Ravinder Singh, Senior Entomologist (Pulses) working in the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, has been admitted as Fellow of the Indian Society of Pulses Research and Development (ISPRD) for the year 2017. Singh is presently working under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Chickpea and is the Principal Investigator of Chickpea Entomology at national level. He has been actively involved in the development of management strategies for major insect pests of pulses.
Gaurav Kumar Taggar, working as Assistant Entomologist in the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, has been elected as Fellow of the Indian Society of Pulses Research and Development (ISPRD) for the year 2017. Taggar is currently working under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Pigeonpea and his researchable areas include understanding insect-plant interactions and screening of host plants for resistance against insect pests of grain legumes. He has contributed towards developing germplasm screening technique and elucidating bases of resistance in black gram against whitefly.
